The Skincare Tag

1.Describe your skincare routine in five words.
Double cleanse, detoxing, moisturising, simple

2. What's your skin type?
My skin is combination- oilier on my t-zone and prone to dry areas. It can't really make it mind up if its oily or dry these days! I'm definitely prone to blemishes though :(

3. What's your favorite skincare product?
REN Clear Calm 3 Clay Cleanser is my favourite product I've ever put on my face. It's amazing when my skin is really oily/generally feeling gross/really spotty. The clay balances my skin out amazingly and I won't ever be without this cleanser!

4. Top blemish zapper?
I think the REN cleaner I just mentioned is amazing at zapping blemishes but I also love Origins Super Spot Remover! It reduces the size of big blemishes over night and I find that they heal way quicker than normal!

5. Face wipes... Yay or nay?
Definitely nay! I detest the things. When I've used them in the past my face has been left red, sore and gross! Give me a cleansing balm any day!

6. Toner... Yay or nay?
I'd say nay for regular 'toner' as I think that's a pointless step now as nobody really cleanses the way they used to- cleasing lotion on a cotton pad, followed by toner to make sure it was all removed.. But I do love a good exfoliating toner!

7. High end skincare or high end makeup?
I definitely think that you can get away with wearing drug store make-up and nobody would know. I think high end skincare is really important because the ingredients are generally much better quality than those of a cheaper brand. You can't cover up bad skin with expensive make-up.

8. You're in a French pharmacy and can only buy one item, what would it be?
So much to chose from! I'd probably pick up Serozinc by La Roche Posay as I've heard a lot of people talk about it and it's impossible to find over here!

9. Top skincare tip?
Be consistent and to state the obvious- no sleeping in make-up! It only takes two minutes to remove your make-up there really isn't an excuse. Even if you're home from a night out it's easy enough to take it off- even if it is just a face wipe or a swipe of Bioderma! At least it's not just sitting on your face whilst you sleep and you can cleanse properly in the morning!

I tag anyone who reads this to do this tag

currently wishing for...

Untitled #11

Recently I've found myself wanting more clothes than make-up which is rare for me! I usually go through phases of wanting loads of make-up and then clothes after but I haven't found myself wanting new make-up for a while now.
At the moment, I'm looking into adding a few new pieces to my wardrobe to update it ready for Autumn. Every year at around September-October time, I always invest in a good pair of jeans to see me through the next Autumn/Winter. Last year I bought black leigh jeans from Topshop but I'm not a fan of the way that they've changed them this year! I like the look of these from Miss Selfridge- very similar to the old Leighs and they look super comfy! I'm not a fan of stiff, thick jeans so this type of jean is my favourite! I'm going to invest in a pair of these in blue and black because I know I will most probably be living in them when I start uni!

I love love love tartan! Last year I bought a tartan scarf from H&M and I wore it to death. I'm so glad that tartan is in again this Autumn as I will be taking full advantage! These tartan shorts from River Island would look amazing with a sheer white shirt, tights & a pair of chelsea boots! I just hope that they're not too short as I hate the 'bum shorts' trend- yuck!

I'm in love with this little wine skater dress with a little white collar from River Island! I was obsessed with this colour last Autumn and I can tell I will be this year too. I think the heart print is so cute and the collar! I love wearing skater dresses like this in Autumn with a leather jacket, tights and boots!

After buying the Zara Office City Bag- which I love, I was after a smaller bag to take out when I don't need loads of stuff with me! I love having a big bag with me all the time but I think sometimes it's nice to have a smaller one for when you just need essentials. I love this satchel from ASOS- the scalloped detail on the edges is so cute!

Being a bit of a highlighter obsessive, I'm amazed that I haven't bought the Mary Lou-Manizer by The Balm yet! It looks like such a gorgeous colour and I really want to get my hands on it! I might have to treat myself on payday as I'm on a make-up spending ban at the moment which is going surprisingly well right now!

I've really enjoyed using the REN Clarifying Toning Lotion as my exfoliater but I'm after something slightly stronger! I've heard so much about this on blogs so I really want to try it.

What's on your wishlist this week?

Little life update #4: Centre Parcs

Last weekend, my family and I decided to all take some time off from work and go to Centre Parcs in Longleat. These days it seems like everyone is always busy so it was really nice to actually spend some time together for once. With mobile phone signal and wireless opportunities at an all time low, we had no choice but to pay attention to each other for once! Being disconnected from the internet for a few days felt quite refreshing although the first thing I did when I got into the car was check twitter.. I think I have an addiction on my hands here!
It's such a rare occasion that my mum or Alex will come anywhere near me when I'm holding a camera so I had to make sure I captured the moment even if we are all looking a bit dishevelled after swimming and cycling loads!
It's safe to say my thighs felt the burn of riding around everywhere and I am now exhausted! The last time I went to Centre Parcs I regretted not doing many activities so we tried to book lots this time. We played Badmintion, went swimming, played crazy golf amongst other things- leaving me crying for my bed pathetically by nine!
Of course I had to make sure we took full advantage of the Pancake House- we visited twice and I would have gone more if I had the chance! I had a Banoffee stack of pancakes- absolute heaven! We also went to the Indian restaurant which was incredible! Alex and I also devoured burgers at Hucks , the American restaurant which also did amazing jam jar cocktails!
As always, my niece was being super cute and forced Alex to watch Peppa Pig and nursery rhymes before she went to bed. I was picked as her favourite person for the holiday and she wouldn't go anywhere without me and called me her best friend constantly - my highlight of the holiday.
I also made a futile attempt at not wearing any make-up so I could give my poor skin a break as it is awful at the moment! I'm currently sitting with a face mask on praying it will clear up soon- Origins Super Spot Remover and Una Brenan clay masks= my best friends at the moment.

What have you been up to recently? Have you ever been to Centre Parcs?

Unpopular opinion- NARS Sheer Glow foundation

Hello! After months of consideration, I finally decided to part with my cash and splurge on a foundation that I've never read a negative review on and that every blogger seems to love. Unfortunately I'm really not fussed on it, at all! I honestly thought I would love it so I'm really disappointed!

For a foundation that is priced at £30.50, is by NARS which are an amazing brand and the fact that almost every blogger/youtuber has raved about it- it's safe to say my expectations were very high for this foundation. I don't even just dislike but can bare to wear it because I want to use it up- I genuinely don't like this to the point where I don't even want to put it on my face full stop!

I don't know whether my skin has changed or what it could be but I did get a tester of this foundation months ago and I used it all up because I really liked it. So when I was at the counter getting matched, I thought I would finally buy it after reading so many reviews. I really should have tried another tester, just to be sure but I didn't think to- stupid really! I despise bullet pointing but I'm a rambler and a ranter.. so basically what I hate about this foundation is-
  • Every time it is applied it's cakey. No matter how little I put on it just cakes on my face and looks gross
  • I have oily skin but it just seemed to pick up dry patches from nowhere and cling to them like nothing else I've tried! The sides of my nose, chin and forehead looked flakey and dry- which are my oiliest areas which I found so odd (lovely mental image I know..)
  • I'm pretty sure it oxidises or something because I'll apply it and it will look fine colour wise and blended but after an hour or so it looks orange and patchy
  • my skin didn't look lovely, perfected and slightly glowy after application like I had seen on the likes of Tanya Burr and Beauty Crush in their videos. My skin looked dull, dry and pretty gross.
  • As it is medium coverage, I expected my blemishes to be covered slightly but they were just highlighted even further
  • At the price I paid and the brand that it is by, I expected much more!
One thing I've definitely learnt from blogging is that not every product works for everyone! I've seen so many people with NARS Sheer Glow on and their skin looks gorgeous. I thought it was how I was applying it but I tried it with my fingers and every different type of foundation brush I owned and I still ended up with the same result. How disappointing! I don't really enjoy writing negative reviews but if I guess they're just as helpful to readers as positive ones!

Have you tried NARS Sheer Glow? I'd love to know what your thoughts are!

The new additions: A rambly university supplies haul

September has finally arrived which means the shelves are full of 'back to school' supplies and there will be many people feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves for their next academic year. In my opinion, the best way to be is organised. I would always feel super nervous when I was going into new important school years but I find that if you're as organised as you can be, it really is much easier!

I love buying all my things for the year ahead especially notebooks. Is it just me or does doing work seem slightly more bearable when you have a pretty notebook to write your work in? The back to school sales that are in most supermarkets and book shops are your best friend for buying your essentials. Try not to leave it until you start because a lot of stationary is expensive and most of the time you can get it all for 50% off before school starts!

My favourite notebooks to write my work in whether it be essays, revision or general work is the Pukka project books. They're around £4.50 in most supermarkets etc usually but they're always on offer around this time of year! I believe I got mine for around £2 in Sainsburys due to the offers. As sad as it sounds, I've bought this particular notebook numerous times throughout sixth form and am continuing to buy it for uni as it is the best one I've found. I cannot stand notebooks that have the really thin crappy paper that you can't write essays on because they're just rubbish quality! They also have pouches in the page dividers where you can insert important pieces of paper- I used to pop the grade boundaries grid and assessment objectives in these for when I was answering past paper questions!

I think the most important notebook to have is a planner/organiser! I know most colleges/sixth forms give you one when you start the year and I literally felt lost without mine. Most people I know used to just try and remember their homework or write it on a random piece of paper but I physcially could not do that! Every piece of work, deadline, essay, exam was written down in my planner with when it had to be done by because I knew I wouldn't remember it. Especially when you have lots of essays, coursework and the like to do at once, it can get on top of you really easily. To me, if it was written down, it was easier to manage and I could have a clearer view of what I needed to do without panicking that I forgot an important piece of coursework! Admittedly, I wasn't an angel student and I stupidly left coursework to the last minute and purposefully didn't hand things in sometimes but that's not the point!

If your school/college etc. doesn't provide a planner/organiser, I highly reccomend you get one! I got this one from Sainsburys in the back to school offer and it cost me like £1.50! It has four pages for different timetables- this could be handy for uni students as each semester will have a different lecture/seminar timetable and also college students that have 'week A' and 'week B' or something similar. I know I would definitely forget to go to things if I didn't have it properly written down! This planner also has two pages for each week- this makes writing down work deadlines and assignments so much simpler and easy to view.

The other two floral notebooks were also from Sainsburys for around £2 in the school offer! I think they look so cute and I'm actually using the smaller one for blogging ideas but it could be used for school. I prefer taking notes in A4 sized notebooks when it comes to college/uni work because it's easier to me but when I was buying all these notebooks there was a huge selection of different sizes, patterns etc.

I know this post is super lengthy and muddled- I seriously doubt anyone has actually sat and read it all haha but I hope I have helped someone! I'm going to be doing a series of education related posts over the next week or so, so make sure you keep a look out if you're interested. I was thinking of doing a post about sixth form and applying to university maybe? Let me know if you would be interested in anything along those lines!

August favourites

Hello! As you can probably see, this month hasn't been one for lots of amazing beauty discoveries and lots of products that I cannot put down. When I was thinking about which products I should feature in this month's favourites, I really couldn't think of much. Every product included has been very well loved this month but I can't help but think they're all just very practical and not very exciting!

A few weeks ago I finally bit the bullet and purchased the infamous Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. Although this is in my favourites, don't expect a rave review! It's really not my cup of tea in terms of eyeshadows as I feel it's a bit bland for my personal taste- I should have known really! But I have loved using Naked2 for brows and sometimes a crease colour, Faint for a crease colour and along the top and bottom lash line and sometimes Crave along the top lash line. The other shades are sitting pretty much unloved as I prefer a shimmery shade such as MAC Naked Lunch as a base colour.

Mayebelline The Eraser Eye has been very well loved this month! The coverage and consistency of this concealer is perfect. It's creamy and light on the under-eye area -which is rare to find as I find most concealers even under-eye ones to be too heavy and cakey. The shade is a perfect match for my skin tone and although I find the sponge a slightly gross concept, it does apply it quite nicely. Saying that, I've found that applying it on the back of my hand first and then applying with a different brush a much more hygienic way to apply it.

This month I've been reintroduced to an essential for every beauty lover- eyelash curlers. The pair I had previously broke and I never thought to replace them as I didn't think I needed them. Oh how wrong I was- these little beauties from Tweezerman are the most perfect addition to my make-up tool collection and I wouldn't be without them now. They make such a difference to my eye make-up I can't believe I was ever without them. Also when I bought them they were on a Boots triple Advantage points offer, which I believe is still going- go get them!

A very practical but also neglected product for me in the past. It seems like it's the basics that tend to get overlooked the most. I never really thought to apply hand cream really, I've always kept one in my handbag but I rarely applied it. Recently after work, my hands have felt so so dry which is obviously due to washing them so often! Hand Food from Soap & Glory is the nicest hand cream I've tried and my hands feel super soft again! I've become a little bit addicted to applying this!

Another essential for me in work is Korres lip butter in Quince. This is the loveliest lip butter I have EVER tried. It is so buttery soft and leaves my lips feeling nourished for ages. It is quite pigmented and leaves a lovely subtle rosy pink sheen on the lips. I keep this in my apron in work as it's so fuss free. It makes me look like I've got something nice on my lips without having to constantly check it and reapply like I would if I was wearing lipgloss. It wears off nicely and doesn't go all yucky on the lips after a while which I find lots of lip butters do! I could ramble on forever about this lip butter so I think I'll stop now but I will be buying all of the shades asap!

What products have you been loving this month?

A Little life update #3

I feel like I haven't properly settled back into blogging after a month or so off, despite reading blogs constantly and attempting to write up some posts. Every time I sit down and plan to write a blog post, I just feel like I don't know where to start. My motivation has definitely been having a bit of a lull so I thought I'd ease back into blogging with a little update post on where I've been and what I've been up to recently.
As I've had so many months off from college before I start university in a few weeks, it feels like all of the months have just merged into one. I actually have no idea when I did some of these things but I know it has been in the past few weeks!

My gorgeous little niece, Freya, has been in a lot of these update posts in the past. That would be because I'm actually obsessed with her. She is just the cutest little girl ever and I adore spending time with her. Freya is horse obsessed (so much so that she usually speaks with 'nay' at the beginning and end of each sentence haha) .. so when my friend invited us up to her farm so Frey could ride her horses I couldn't say no! She absolutely loved it and wasn't even scared in the slightest- she's only three! Obviously we held on to her the whole time and two of my friends were holding onto the horse just to be safe but the horse was so calm and lovely- I even had a ride, which was an achievement for me!

Freya is the biggest poser I have ever met and loves taking photos. She can use an iPhone better than anyone I know and always puts the camera on, changes it to front camera and pouts haha! As you can see my little mini me and I, love having a good pout off.- just to clarify my pout is not serious, I am in no way a pouter haha! She's also addicted to make-up like her auntie! She cannot go into my bedroom without returning with painted nails- that usually match mine hehe or lipstick smothered all over her face! She took home my make-up bag without me knowing and my brother found her in her room covered in make-up giggling haha!

On August 15th, it was doomsday, also known as A- level results day. Thankfully, all went well and I am super happy because I'm going to university in a few weeks to study Educational Studies and Literacy which I've wanted to do forever! My lovely friend Hannah, her gorgeous little boy Josh and I went to town to shop and had lunch to celebrate- a lot of money was spent!

My boyfriend Alex is a very good egg and bought me lots of Disney dvds after I did my exams, so after his exam I thought I'd return the treat and bought him The Jungle Book. Whilst most people were out drinking on a Friday night, we watched a Disney film and ate lots of chocolate- I regret nothing. We also had a family meal last weekend as his brother was home- there was lots of greek food=I left with a food baby.

I cannot believe what happened in the Pretty Little Liars finale?! Obviously I'm not going to mention anything that happened because I know a lot of UK fans of the program might not have seen it but WOW is all I can say. I'm still in shock and I am devastated to say the least. If you have seen the finale episode dm me on twitter so we can discuss! Katie from Subtle Coral and I have been having major PLL crisis talks lately and I'm desperate to see the next episode so tweet me if you watch it!

My lovely Papa turned 84 last weekend so the family went to his home to visit him along with enough fairy cakes to feed the nation. He refused to take his cowboy hat off and I had to make faces at him for ages so he would smile and poke his tongue out haha! He is so cute and I love going up to visit him and his friends because they're all so sweet!

What a rambly update that was! I'm going to write up a few posts whilst I have my motivation back so I
should hopefully be back tomorrow with my August favourites. What have you been up to recently?
